In loving Memory of….

… Me!

We do not often think or consider that we are all have a limited time on the Earth and it is normally only when we lose a loved one we realise how much they meant to us. We all wish we could have had 1 more day, the chance to say I’m sorry or just to share a joke with a friend. While it is not (directly) possible, there is now a way where you can leave a message for loved ones when you are no longer here.

People have been doing this for a long time in may ways, from making a video or home movie, to writing a letter and having it stored by your Laywer but now there is a new way to send a message from beyond. The concept is simple and easy to do.

Not only can you send a message, but you could even write your own Obituary and have it deliverd once you are gone. This may sound a little morbid to some, but lets face it, You are the only one who knows how you would like to be remembered. The system is simple - sign up and create your “messages from beyond” and then follow the instructions for sending the message. They have all sorts of safeguards so that a message is not sent until the pre-defined rules you set out are met. With a service such as this that is dealing with a very emotive issue they have to take all reasonable care to ensure that a message is not delivered unless it has to be.

Not only can you leave a message, but you could also leave instructions for your service - one example is that you could write your own poem for your funeral service.

A visit with…

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

.. your friends and the chance to explore somewhere new is what a holiday is all about.

While you may not have friends all over the world who can take you out and show you what is what if you are heading to Italy, then there is a nice alternative. A Tuscany Holiday that puts you in touch with the Locals and off the beaten track sounds like a great way to spend a few days or weeks. Taking an Italian wine and food tour and really immersing yourself in the country and culture sounds like a great way to spend a holiday to me.

This website has to be one of the most interesting and innovative “travel brochures” I have ever seen. The site is all about how they can put You in control and in touch with the country and culture. They do this in an intersting way - by showing you exactly the sort of activites that That Arianna and her Friends can share with you from a Tuscan Cooking class, food and wine tours to treks and cycle tours. I don’t normally quote from a site I look at but a small quote from their about us page really says it all for me.

If you want to spend some time with us you’d better get to know us first!

The page goes on to introduce you to the Tour guides from there. You get the feeling that you are actually visiting a friend who will show you around rather than booking a holiday. Take a quick peek at the Tuscany Photo Gallery to get a glimpse of what you can expect, and when packing, don’t forget your own Camera!

I always think to myself “one day I’ll get to Europe” and I think that after looking over this website that they really do offer something for me. I like to try and get friends or family to show me the out of the way places and from this glimpse, this is the sort of thing I would love to do.

Need a Little Love’n?

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Have you ever written or received a little love note from your special someone? Well if you have or you are thinking that you will then you can find a heap of inspiration for your romantic notes at romance for everyone.

Come on, face it, everyone needs a little love in their life and if you don’t then just think of how lucky you might get if you grab a bit of inspiration and impress that special someone you have had your eye on! Yes, this is a cheap and tacky shot, but it reminds me of a slogan on a coffee cup of one of my mates - “Ma always said you can’t buy love, but she didn’t say you couldn’t rent it by the hour”

The site has a fairly large collection of love notes and letters, and truthfully, I did not read them all. Sure, I read a fair few of them and most are quite short - I guess that is what a note is all about - a short message. While the website had a heap of content and with the header it left no doubt as to the site you are on I did find the navigation a little bit haphazard. A little bit of effort in maybe putting together a bit more of a navigation bar under the header would make the site much easier to use. The default font is not too small which makes reading on screen quite easy.

Just one last thing - remember, if when you decide to copy one of the notes for your own, change it a tad - the last thing you want is for that special someone to google the contents of your note and find it! You will go from hero to Zero in a flash!

Posters

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

5dollarposters_logo.gif

Looking for Cheap Posters? Even if you are not, you might want to simply browse the hundreds that are available.  Posters are a great way to put your mark on your space, such as your room, or even your college dorm.

The Website is not real flash and fancy, it is all about letting you view the posters and making it easy to buy them.  It would not win any beauty contests, but hey, you are looking for a cheap poster and looking to get it as easy as possible after all.  Depending on your interests, you can choose from Music, Movies and TV and several other categories.  If you are really keen, you can even browse all 30 pages with 18 posters per page of every single poster on offer.  All the contact details are available, phone, email and online form in case you need them.

Now, last time I checked, $5 didn’t buy you a whole lot, and a poster for $5 sounds like a pretty good deal to me.  What makes it even better is the shipping is cheap as well.  Buying multiple posters at the same time saves you heaps on shipping, and if you add in the 10% discount for buying 3 you can see that you can change the look of your space for not much more than you would spend on a burger and fries for lunch.

Now no self respecting college student would want to be without a classic poster - This poster will give you a huge incentive to get that study stuff done so you can get to the next party!

Living In Mexico

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Moving from one country to another is not something that everyone does and those that do can have some great experiences along with the not so great. Mexico501 is a blog about a family that did just that, they decided to move from the US to Mexico and live there for a few years.  Rather than just do it, like most people would, they went ahead and wrote about some of their experiences about living in Mexico in a blog.

Now, this might seem like a pretty radical move, and almost everyone around the world hears about people tring to go North across the border, you don’t often hear about people going in the other direction.  I guess it also take a bit of courage to pick up and move from one country to another and live and after reading a bit on this site I found it pretty fascinating.

The blog looks like it was getting very regular updates for a few months and now - nothing.  I really hope that this is due to the owners taking a vacation!  I can say that I couldn’t find a single post that was not interesting in some way - the cultural differences and how someone is handling it is what is so interersting about it all.  Some of the posts about visiting the hospital are a little on the personal side and for a site that is all about living in another country I think concentrate a bit too much on this - The general information about communicating when the Doctors only speak a little English and the Patient only speaks a few words of Spanish are the interesting parts of these posts.

What is really great about the blog is that there is also a gallery of some photos that add to the overall story.  The pictures show different parts of Living in Mexico.  The pictures by themselves, unfortunately, only tell part of the story.  Only a few of them are captioned and the un-captioned ones would really benefit from a few words.  If all the pictures were captioned then me, the reader would have probably spent a bit more time browsing the gallery and reading about the pictures.

The site, even though it would currently benefit from a few minor updates provides a fascinating glimpse of someone moving from the US to Mexico.

In The Fast Lane

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

2fastlanelogo.jpg

Do you like Fast cars? Well, I am pretty sure that you at least have a passing interest -so why not check out the great street racing videos of cars most of us can only dream about.  With all the Vids and pictures you will be entertained or inspired for hours.  This website is a whole lot more than a collection of vids and pics of hot cars it also has a News section with headlines about all things that a motor sports enthusiast is interested in.

After looking at the videos you will then be thinking of how you can enhance your own car and the Car Tuning Blog has that covered for you.  With articles and reviews of all the latest tuning and “go fast” gadgets you will be able to get your car up to speed in no time!  The blog is not just about tuning, it also reviews a lot of high-tech gadgets and other accessories to not only get you moving, but showing how you can do it in style!  From hot Mags, Stereos and exhaust systems - you can find reviews here.

I am not generally a fan of websites that are white text on black, but I think that in this case it works out pretty good. They make use of Orange as well which breaks things up a bit.  The site is easy to use and easy to navigate and the blog plus the vids and pics give a nice mix of info and entertainment.

Go, I know you want to…..

New York Sports

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

New York, The Big Apple, as it is commonly known is the most densly populated Major city in North America.  The population of this city is greater than more than half of the states in the whole US! Located on the shores of the Hudson and East Rivers in NY State, the tragic events of 9/11 put this city into the limelight on the world stage for all the wrong reasons.

New York is the Centre for Fashion and International finance, and with over 8Million people living there they have a huge range of National Sporting teams based there. So for you Sports Fans, looking for a holiday to the big Apple Look up New York sports tourism before you leave home.  With 2 Baseball Teams, a Basketball team, 2 hockey teams and 2 football teams your next trip to the Big Apple should include a game from your favourite sport.

New York is certainly a lot more than just the busiest city in America, with their world famous Central park, the Statue of Liberty and Times Square to visit on your vacation you will certainly keep busy between visiting The theatres and many Museums.

In the city that never shuts down, after you catch a Broadway show, you can grab a nice meal at Becco’s Italian Restaurant or any of the other fine Restaurants.

Now York Sports is one of several websites that are based on a similar sports based travel theme.  If you looked at the Chicago site in the last post, you would have noticed that the websites looked similar.  We will be keeping an eye out for the next city that is featured!
