Fantasy Fiction

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

The Fantasy fiction blog contains some short stories and extracts of the authors fantasy fiction writing.  The blog is fairly new with only a small number of posts.  Mot everyone has the time to write a book, but by presenting short stories in a blog, any aspiring author can not only write their stories, but have the opportunity to interact with their readers.  If you like to read about Magic, Dragons and Elves then you will certainly find that here.  Most of the Posts the Author has made look to be snippets of a much bigger story.  I would even hazard a guss that they might be writing a novel, and posting some small snippets into a blog while they write the book.  then again, I might be wrong!  I will leave it up to you to decide.

Anxiety Help

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

Nearly everyone has heard of mental depression and diseases and are probably unaware of how they can affect you.  Nobody really thinks about mental health or mental healthcare until you or someone close to you is diagnosed with a disorder.  Anxiety is one of the disorders that can be debilitating for sufferers.  If you suffer from anxiety or live with someone who does, the doctors will only provide part of the depression information on the what and how to treat and assist your recovery.

A lot of people who suspect they have any sort of mental disorder still avoid seeking medical advice due to the stigma still attached to sufferers.  Thesedays, you can at least turn to the Internet and do a little bit of research on your own if you suspect that you may be suffering.  You can look for information on Symptoms of Anxiety attacks in your own home.  By recognising the symptoms you can then seek appropriate professional help.

By reading and educating yourself about anxiety attack symptoms and causes you can start to understand and come to terms with what you are dealing with.  The mildest forms of such an attack might be just a fear of public speaking and a lot of people have suffered from this even just a little bit.  A sufferer would have this sort of anxeity under almost any stressful situation.

The Anxiety Help website contains a lot of articles, resources and information that looks to be quite well written and presented in a way that is easy to read.  What impressed me most was that they do mention the importance of seeking professional advice, but theire articles do seem to explain in fairly simple terms all aspects about this problem.

Free Text Links

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

All Webmasters know how time-consuming it can be to build links to their websites.  You can go out and submit your site to directories, write articles and post them to Article sites or request a link exchange with other sites.  Well, part of this might just get a bit easier if you look at what Free Text Link Ads has to offer.  You just sign up, create Your ad, and then insert a small amount of code on your site.  Now, you will display links (free text ads) for other sites, and other sites will display your Ads.

Now, you may ask how this differs from any other link trade.  Well it differs in a couple of ways.  Every time you display an ad, you earn credits, and every time your ads are displayed, you “pay” with already earned credits.  You never have to worry if you are getting a good trade, as the credit system levels the playing field and ensures that your linking partners are in fact partners. They have a good FAQ that explains all of the details of how it works.

Additionally, while you are there, you can submit your site to their Directory.  All submissions are paid, and I am guessing that the money they recieve from the submissions helps keep the Free Text link Ads part of the website all going.  I know that I am going to sign up with some of my sites and see how it goes.

Health Span

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

The Healthspan blog is all about being healthy!  This blog has been going for about 6 months and there are new posts and articles posted every couple of days.  The site has a couple of contributors in John and Rebecca, which gives a good balance in the posts.  They cover healthy living for both men and women.  All Healthspan posts are archived into several categories which makes it easier to find specific information.  When we looked over the site, we just started reading the current page, and just browsed back over the older posts.

The Blog format is a great way to present articles and not just for blogging.  The layout and navigation just makes it easy to not only find articles, but when you do they are easy to read on-screen.

Now you might wonder what sort of articles you might find on a site called healthspan.  Well, they actually cover quite a lot!  With categories such as Aging, Exercise to stay young, Healthcare and Nutrition you get the idea that they cover a fair range.  Just looking at one of the categories - Exercise, it has had at least 1 new artice each month.  Nearly all categories are the same, they have posts both old and new.

I really like the writing style of this site.  It is fairly relaxed and provides the information in a way that is easy to understand.  A lot of lifestyle type sites are just too much like an encyclopedia (and who sits down to read an encyclopedia) - not here.

Jtrotta Web Directory

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

When we were asked to check out jtrotta web directory, the initial thought was, yes, another directory so what.  But we did go and have a look.  Unique header, Check. Good looking template, Check. A reasonably broad range of categories and sub-categories, Check.  Well, it all looked ok at this point, but now we wanted to see if this directory had a unique selling point.  Guess what? We found not only 1 but at least 3 unique things that jtrotta.com web Directory has that we have not seen in other directories.

Well the first thing that was a pleasant surprise was that there were not adverts plastered all over the site. Yes, not 1 advert was to be found on any page of the whole site to distract you from browsing the directory.  The next thing was that there was not a whole bunch of links in the footer of every page.  At this point, we thought wow! these guys have got it right! they are interested in looking out for the web surfer who just wants to browse and maybe find an interesting site or 2.

Now, the biggie - While we appreciate that in order for a site like this to survive, that they would need to charge for listings. They have what we consider to be a fairly unique approach for their listings.  Firstly, they have a tiered pricing for listings - so the deeper the link from the homepage, the cheaper it is for a listing. The most interesting one is the payment model - you submit your site for free, and only whne your site has been reviewed and your listing approved do you pay.  You actually get to see your site listing in the directory before you pay, and if you are not completely satisifed with where it is, or what the listing looks like, you can choose not to pay and your listing will expire.

Do you run a lot of websites and want to include them all in this directory? well, if you do, they even have a free submission service.  You just need to tell them your site URL, main keyword and they will even write a description and put your site into the most appropriate category.  Not a bad value added service wouldn’t you say.

The biggest categories in this directory are the Sports sites, travel sites and Arts and Entertainment.

Dating Culture

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

At some point in our life, we nearly all find a partner and fall in love. For the most part, we generally find someone from the same or a similar cultural background, but not always.  If you fall in love with someone from a different background, you may experience some ups and downs due to the cultural differences and what is and is not acceptable when dating. This is where the articles on Intercultural dating may save you from cultural misunderstandings with your new found partner.

Dating culture has articles covering most aspects of dating, lifestyles, marriage and romance and even online romances.  The dating section has articles on dating habits of various countries.  Some of the countries include US, UK, India and Korea.  Just reading these articles gives an interesting insight into the culture of various parts of the world, even if you are not dating someone from that part of the world.

If we look at just one country such as dating in Thailand, you can gain quite an insight into the overall customs of dating, marriage and romance within this region.  It would be safe to assume that anoyne who was born and raised in such a culture would bring their beliefs with them if they moved to say the US to attend University.  This is where someone from the US would likely become involved with someone from another cultural background and want to understand the customs of the person they might become involved with.

The website is based on a Blog, and as such it works quite well.  The articles are easy to find by category, and they invite the reader to participate by commenting on an article.  If you have experience with dating someone from another culture, they even invite you to write something about it and submit your story/experiences.

If you are wanting to find some specific information on the dating customs around the world or are simply looking for cultural information in general, then I am sure you will find an article or 2 of interest.
